As a human being knowledge gives us the gift of power! The power to develop, the power to grow and the power to understand. Think for a minute about this, from the day you were born into the world you began to build your knowledge through observing and listening this was stored in your brains and processed into developing your understanding. Some of our early learnings as part of our personal development were learning to eat unaided, learning to walk, learning to talk and communicate all of which did not happen instantly at our first attempt but once mastered helped us to progress onto the next milestone and goal on our journey. I am sure that there is much evidence in varying mediums to support this, of our younger selves with food all over our faces, standing up holding the Sofa or with some other form of early years walking aid or recordings of our first gurgling’s or our journey to forming our first word. All of these firsts were achieved through storing the mass of data we had generated, processing it into a summary and piecing the jigsaw together as we went along to achieve our goal. Trying new ways and approaches through the trends we were forming in our brains to achieve the desired outcome. If I turn my spoon upside down the food falls off! If I miss my mouth and poke my self in the eye with my spoon it hurts, result, we learnt not to do it again. Learning to master these tasks, which we today take for granted, as they have become second nature has given us the power to grow, grow though providing nutrition to our bodies, to be mobile to learn and explore in new environments and to communicate to understand and question to cement our understanding. There is a stark parallel within organisations today, every working day our companies process masses of information from our Commercial teams speaking to new and existing customers, Finance processing invoices and managing payments, Customer services capturing and processing orders, Manufacturing producing the right products at the right time to the required quantity or Logistics ensuring that our products are delivered in the best possible condition on time. But with so much data transacting around our business how can we work though it all and to understand the, if I poke myself in the eye with my spoon it hurts moments and to try something different! to achieving a better result to move forward, develop and grow. How can all this knowledge gained be turned into a summary providing power, the power to grow and learn to walk, then run and ultimately sprint. Power BI is all about taking the masses of knowledge (organisational data), summarising it and providing your business with the power. Helping you to move on from learning to walk to sprinting.
